Leaving Early Access: 2027

What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“PatchWorld is already a deep and functional creative environment, but it is also an ambitious and constantly evolving system bringing together spatial visual programming, world-building, multiplayer creation, sound, visuals, physics, interaction and connected workflows.

Early Access lets us continue developing PatchWorld closely with the people actually using it. Our focus is on making the experience easier to enter without reducing its depth: improving UI/UX and onboarding, expanding tutorials and documentation, refining creator workflows and content, and strengthening multiplayer, performance and stability across supported hardware.

We are also continuing to develop Desktop Mode beyond its current companion role and toward a much fuller PatchWorld experience.

PatchWorld has always grown through experimentation with its community, and Early Access allows us to continue that process openly while expanding what creators can build, connect and share.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect PatchWorld to remain in Early Access for approximately 12 months, although the exact timing will depend on development progress and community feedback.

We want to leave Early Access when the experience feels mature and coherent, rather than simply when a fixed date arrives.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to build on the existing Early Access experience with a more polished, accessible and complete creative environment, while preserving the depth and openness that make PatchWorld unique.

Our priorities include a major evolution of the UI/UX, clearer onboarding, more tutorials and learning journeys, improved documentation, expanded creator tools and content, stronger multiplayer, and continued improvements to performance, stability and hardware compatibility.

We also plan to keep expanding the PatchWorld ecosystem with more blocks, devices, worlds and connected workflows, while making it easier for new creators to progress from exploring and remixing existing creations to building complex systems of their own.

Desktop Mode is another major area of development. At Early Access launch it is primarily a companion experience for joining supported sessions, observing, filming, recording and streaming. We plan to evolve it toward a much fuller desktop experience, with broader world compatibility and deeper creation and interaction capabilities outside VR.

Community feedback during Early Access will help shape the priorities and final scope of the full release.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“PatchWorld is already playable and creatively powerful in PC VR. Creators can build interactive systems using modular blocks for sound, visuals, logic, physics, movement and interaction; create instruments, games, machines and worlds; collaborate in multiplayer; explore and remix community creations; and connect PatchWorld to external tools and workflows.

The Early Access version already includes 230+ modular building blocks, 500+ reusable devices and more than 3,000 published community worlds, alongside live jams, workshops, events and collaborative sessions.

Desktop Mode is currently in beta and functions primarily as a companion experience. Desktop users can join supported multiplayer sessions, explore compatible worlds, observe, film, record and stream from a monitor, but they cannot yet access the full creation workflow or experience every PatchWorld world and interaction in the same way as in VR.

Some areas are still evolving, particularly onboarding, tutorials, documentation, UI/UX, multiplayer stability, performance and advanced creator workflows.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The price may increase as PatchWorld becomes more complete and moves toward its full release.

The Early Access price reflects a product that is already deep and highly usable, while major areas of the experience are still being refined and expanded. Early Access buyers can access PatchWorld at the current price while helping shape its next stage of development.

As these areas improve, more content and capabilities are added, and PatchWorld moves toward its full release, we expect the price to increase.

Early Access buyers get PatchWorld at a lower price and help shape the next stage of development.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We take a strongly user-centered approach to PatchWorld’s development and work closely with our community throughout the process.

Our Discord is an active part of that development loop, with dedicated channels for bug reports, feature requests, feedback and testing that the team monitors regularly. Community members can also join a dedicated tester role and testing channel to try upcoming features, improvements and experimental builds before they are released more widely.

We regularly test new systems, UI/UX changes, workflows and content with users, and run co-design sessions, workshops and direct feedback sessions with creators, educators and community members. This helps us understand not only whether something works technically, but how people actually use it, where they get stuck and what unexpected possibilities they discover.

Community feedback directly informs our development priorities throughout Early Access. PatchWorld has always evolved through close exchange with the people using it, and we want that process to remain open and collaborative.”

About This Game

Build, Explore, Connect, Remix & Play Together

PatchWorld is a live creative sandbox where you build working things by connecting blocks together directly in 3D.

Make a car. Build a synth. Create a multiplayer game. Wire up a robot. Make lights react to your hands. Turn physics into music. Build an interactive world with your friends.

Patching is programming made physical. Grab a block, connect it to another one, change what it does and immediately see the result, while everything keeps running.

There is no separate build mode and play mode. You create inside the world you are already playing in.

Start for free

You don't have to buy PatchWorld to find out whether patching is for you.

The permanent free demo lets you enter PatchWorld, explore public and community worlds, join multiplayer sessions, jams, events and workshops, and start creating with a curated set of building tools.

Build and publish your first world, experiment with patching and meet the community.

If you want the complete creator toolkit and deeper publishing capabilities, you can unlock the full version.

Patch anything to anything

PatchWorld gives you a shared patching language for sound, visuals, logic, physics, movement, interaction and world behaviour.

Connect a button to a motor. Connect a collision to a sound. Connect your hand movement to a light. Make gravity control an instrument. Trigger an animation from something happening on the web.

Start with a few blocks or keep going until you have built an entire interactive system.

With 230+ modular blocks, PatchWorld can become a toy box, a synthesizer, a visual programming environment, a game engine, a performance space, you name it.

Build games, toys and strange machines

Use physics, logic, movement and interaction to make games, vehicles, robots, rides, puzzles, contraptions and playable worlds.

Everything can be opened, understood, deconstructed and patched differently.

You do not have to start from nothing. Take an existing idea apart, change how it works and turn it into something else.

Build instruments and reactive audiovisual systems

Music is where PatchWorld began, and it is still one of its deepest creative systems.

Build synthesizers, samplers, sequencers, drum machines, effects and completely new instruments using PatchWorld's real-time spatial audio engine.

Then patch sound into everything else: lights, particles, movement, physics, avatars, environments and gameplay.

Inspired by modular synthesis, Pure Data, Max/MSP, TouchDesigner and node-based creative tools, PatchWorld brings patching off the flat screen and into a space you can physically move through.

Build together

PatchWorld is multiplayer by design.

Create a machine while somebody else builds the world around it. Jam with instruments made by another creator. Take something apart together. Host a workshop, performance or live experiment.

PatchWorld already contains 500+ reusable devices and more than 3,000 published community worlds to explore, learn from and remix.

Our community also runs jams, workshops, co-design sessions and live events where new and experienced patchers build together.

Connect PatchWorld to the outside world

Your patch does not have to stop at the edge of PatchWorld.

Connect PatchWorld with bidirectional MIDI, OSC, Ableton Link and WebBridge, alongside external controllers, software and creative workflows.

Patch hardware to virtual objects. Use custom web interfaces to control something inside a world. Connect PatchWorld to a studio or performance setup.

The idea is simple:

Patch anything to anything. Live.

PC VR + Desktop Companion Mode

PC VR is currently the complete PatchWorld creation experience.

Desktop Mode is in beta and lets you join supported multiplayer sessions, move through compatible worlds, observe, film, record and stream directly from your monitor.

We are actively developing a much fuller desktop creation experience during Early Access.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

PatchWorld includes optional generative AI tools that players can use to create custom content for their worlds and devices.

Players can generate images, 360° skyboxes, 3D meshes, and audio samples by entering text prompts using in-game tools such as the GenieBox device or scripting blocks. Each generation is initiated directly by the player and takes a short amount of time to complete.

Generated content can be used to decorate worlds, create sound effects, and build custom musical instruments. By default, all generated content remains private to the creator and is only shared with others if the player chooses to publish their world.

Generative AI features are entirely optional and are designed to support creativity, experimentation, and collaborative world-building.
